Hello, my name is Dara. I am a published writer, editor, and photographer. I have an innate curiosity, a love of nature, and a passion for helping people. I believe in life-long learning. All of these have afforded me many varied opportunities to author stories both fiction and nonfiction, penning over 1100 articles for newspapers, magazines, and newsletters.

I believe everyone has fascinating life stories, so I have been honored to share some of them through my work both in print and photography. Many of my pictures have appeared with the above credits and in exhibitions. 

My professional credentials include being a licensed teacher, motivational speaker, and presenter at writing conferences. Currently, I am authoring several new writing projects which are in various stages of the writing and publication process.  I have been both traditionally and self-published. My writing resume includes periodicals, books, and anthologies.  I was even the ghostwriter for a unique devotional coloring book. 

 I have also worked as an independent contractor for individuals and publishers in both the Christian and secular markets. 

My teaching background includes teaching English, reading, and writing to middle, high school, and college students in public, charter, and private schools in urban, suburban, and rural settings. As time permits, I tutor students and teach professionals online and in person. 

Books and literacy have always held a special place in my life. I developed youth after-school programs focused on reading and writing. Volunteering in literacy centers assisting adults in mastering their reading and writing skills, has been a rewarding part of my life.

 I am active in my church in various programs benefiting young and old. I have served on several boards for the development of schools, and other educational and non-profit projects.

I love to share my knowledge and skills with other writers. It became clear I needed to expand my prior company, so Pen and Pearls Publishing was established. The company is here to provide full writing services, guiding authors through the self-publishing process after identifying their personal needs. 

When not working, I long to be out exploring nature with my camera.  I also love tending my flower and vegetable gardens. My other hobbies include needlecraft, genealogy, and reading.
